Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is a thrilling, exhilarating, sensational, riveting, electrifying piece of cinema. Based on the web series (Nirvana the Band the Show) and television adaptation (Nirvanna the Band the Show), the film follows musical duo “Nirvana the Band” as they struggle to secure a gig at The Rivoli in Toronto. This has been a 17-year-long endeavor, as they initially formed the band in 2008. Matt Johnson, the planner and vocalist of the group, wears a fedora and very ripped jeans. He’s accompanied by his best friend and pianist, Jay McCarrol. Matt’s latest idea is titled the “Seventh Inning Skydive,” and consists of the two skydiving off the CN Tower into the SkyDome to promote their act during a Blue Jays game. This ends in disaster when the SkyDome’s roof closes too early, the guys missing their window of opportunity yet again. Jay takes this loss pretty hard, booking a solo open mic gig BEHIND Matt’s back. Meanwhile, Matt hatches a plan for them to convince the Rivoli that they are time travelers, renovating their RV to resemble the time machine featured in Back to the Future. He starts a small fire after accidentally spilling his last bottle of Orbitz on the setup. Long story short, this discontinued fruity Canadian beverage transforms the RV into a real, functioning time machine… bringing Matt and Jay all the way back to 2008!!!!!!!!!
The narrative is shocking, to say the least, and will likely leave you with many questions about the stunts they were able to pull off. It literally feels like a prank, especially given the fact that our main characters are surrounded by real-life bystanders on the streets of Toronto. This contributes to a unique format that is part-scripted and part-improvised, blurring the lines between fiction and reality… I’m still really confused about the CN Tower skydive, like, did they do that? Are they ok?
This movie is also really funny. I was smiling the entire time. I really like a buddy film… because having a buddy is one of the sweeter things in life. I highly recommend you watch Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. It’s absolutely insane. These guys are awesome.
